About the School:

Their Academy is extremely popular in the local area, with an average of over 800 applications annually for the 240 places available, and significant waiting lists for places across the year groups. They are, though, a true comprehensive school and welcome a mix of students of all levels of prior attainment. About the department:

The Department forms a highly collaborative and mutually supportive team of professionals, committed to ensuring that all students are offered a stimulating 'hands on' experience in a wide range of art-related materials and skills. Each student is encouraged to develop their talents and achieve their potential in a safe and supportive environment.

They work closely as a team, meeting regularly to review and develop their practice and expertise to meet the needs of the students. As such, the Department is thriving and highly popular, yielding excellent outcomes for students. Both the Academy and the Department actively welcome new ideas, and they look forward to appointing a new Head of Department to both build on current success and to also bring new ideas to our daily work.

The Art Department is situated in specialist classrooms in one block at the very front of our school, enabling them to showcase the incredible talent of their students. There are two general Art rooms, plus a specialist Photography room with a space for controlled lighting. There is also a central office and staff resources room. In addition, we have a new kiln housed in a dedicated room.

The department is very well-equipped and owns 10 DSLR cameras and 10 compact 'bridging' cameras, in addition to 3 studio lighting kits and 8 dedicated macro lenses. They also have 20 dedicated networked PCs and a colour A3 inkjet printer. Within the school there is further access to ICT equipment which is regularly updated, plus colour laserjet printers, through numerous ICT suites and with a range of packages including Adobe Photoshop.
