Head of Department wanted

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of History to join one of our Independent Secondary Schools in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing the history curriculum across all key stages, ensuring that students are provided with high-quality, engaging and relevant teaching and learning experiences. The Head of History will also play a key role in the development and implementation of assessment strategies to monitor and improve student progress.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the history curriculum, ensuring that it is stimulating, challenging, and academically rigorous
  • Manage and support a team of history teachers to deliver outstanding teaching and learning
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning strategies and develop improvement plans where necessary
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure that the history department is aligned with the school's vision and values
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to students and parents
  • Promote the history department within the wider community through organizing and participating in events and activities
  • Participate in the wider life of the school, including contributing to the development of cross-curricular initiatives and whole school events

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in History or a related field, and a teaching qualification
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience in History, with a proven track record of delivering outstanding results
  • Excellent leadership skills, with experience of managing and supporting a team of teachers
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • A passion for History and the ability to inspire students to achieve their full potential
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a desire to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in teaching and learning
