SEN Teaching Assistant

Ideal Candidate-

A Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children who are not yet working at age-related expectations. Every pupil has an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), often with a diagnosis of Autism and associated Speech, Language, and Communication needs, as well as the potential for challenging behaviours.

The ideal candidate will be able to work in small class settings and possess some knowledge of specialist communication tools such as Makaton or PECS. You will be supporting students through individual and group work, helping them to reach their full potential, while working under the guidance of dedicated teaching staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with small groups or individual students as directed by the teacher
  • Assist in managing behaviour by following Behaviour Support Plans
  • Support pupils in accordance with the school's policies and their specific needs
  • Ensure equipment is organised and ready for student use
  • Provide feedback to the teacher regarding pupils' progress and behaviour
  • Supervise students during break times, and support school activities such as Sports Days and multicultural events

Requirements:

  • Experience working with SEN students preferred
  • Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, or similar communication methods
  • Ability to work as part of a team, supporting both the teacher and the pupils
  • A positive attitude and a passion for making a difference in students' lives
