Complex ASD Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Dunbar Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Complex ASD Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with a particular emphasis on those who may be nonverbal and exhibit physical challenges. Some pupils may also require personal care assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils with Complex ASD.
  • Assist in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Support communication strategies for nonverbal pupils.
  • Address and manage challenging behaviors in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Assist with personal care needs as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working in a care home setting is highly considered.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous.
  • SEN school experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of pupils with ASD.
  • Comfortable with physical aspects of the role, including personal care.

Requirements:

  • Full-time availability.
  • DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one before starting.
