The school are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher to join their Design & Technology Department. D&T is a very popular option and has a high profile right across the school.
The successful applicant with teach Design Technology at GCSE and ideally will be able to teach the subject at A-level (although not necessarily for September 2024). They will also teach KS3 on a carousel, so the ability to teach all D&T disciplines will be useful (although the department already has considerable strength in Food Prep).
The Design & Technology department includes the three main areas of study: Food, Workshop Practice and Infographics. The experienced staff are committed to developing the needs of individual students to adapt to the challenge of an ever evolving world. Students undertake focused tasks that develop knowledge, skills and understanding and engage in design and make assignments in different contexts.
Extra-Curricular Opportunities
Throughout Design and Technology, they offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. They run Gastro Club for KS3 and termly D&T workshops for Engineering and Design. They also run MasterChef days and opportunities to build hovercrafts as part of a team. They attend the prestigious Rotary Tournament each year where compete with other schools. They also take part in a series of STEM based competitions throughout the year. They support the House System through their Ready, Steady, Cook competition and in the KS4 and KS5 food course they visit a farm and a local restaurant. They also cook for the RPS Sportsperson's dinner each year. In D&T they offer the opportunity to be considered for the Arkwight Scholarship. They also have lots of exciting industry specialists visit them to talk about future careers in Design and Technology.
