Position: English Teacher (SEN Provision)
Location: Milton Keynes
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM (Number of days negotiable; hours are fixed)
About Us: Dunbar Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join our team, representing a well-regarded SEN provision. This role involves working with secondary-aged pupils who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and exhibit challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lesson Planning: Develop and deliver engaging English lessons that cater to the varying needs of pupils, including those with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
- Functional Skills Instruction: Teach functional skills in English, covering Entry Level 1 to Level 2, and manage multiple levels within one lesson effectively.
- Behaviour Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive learning environment.
- Individualised Support: Provide tailored support to pupils, recognising and addressing individual learning needs and emotional well-being.
- Assessment and Progress Tracking: Assess pupils' progress regularly, provide feedback, and adjust teaching strategies to ensure continuous improvement.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and other professionals to deliver a holistic educational approach.
- Parental Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on pupils' progress and addressing any concerns.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching and supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 6 months teaching/tutoring experience within the UK curriculum, ideally in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Secure Training Centre (STC), or alternative provision.
- Skills: Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour and support pupils with SEMH needs.
- Qualifications: Relevant teaching qualifications and experience in delivering functional skills in English.
- DBS: Must have an Enhanced DBS check on the update service. This position is for an immediate start, so having a valid DBS is essential.
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
- Previous experience working with SEMH/behavioural needs.
- Experience in a PRU, STC, or similar alternative provision setting.
- Strong ability to teach multiple levels of English within one lesson, adapting to the needs of each pupil.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs.
