HLTA - SEN Provision in Hemel Hempstead

We seek an experienced and motivated, qualified HLTA to join our SEN provision in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. As an integral part of our school community, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning, particularly for students with SEN. This is a full-time position offering competitive pay and an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our students

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide comprehensive support for teaching and learning across the curriculum, working closely with the class teacher
  • Lead classes under the guidance and direction of the class teacher, ensuring students are engaged and making progress
  • Deliver tailored support to individual students and small groups, with a particular focus on meeting the needs of SEN students and helping them achieve their full potential
  • Contribute to lesson planning, preparation, and assessment, collaborating with colleagues to ensure a consistent and cohesive learning environment
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting positive behaviour and attitudes among students
  • Act as a role model and mentor to other support staff, offering guidance and training as required


  • Possess an HLTA qualification or equivalent, or hold a degree in a relevant subject with substantial experience as a teaching assistant in an SEN setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers
  • Sound knowledge of the national curriculum, coupled with the ability to plan and deliver effective lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs of all students
  • Previous experience working with SEN students, along with a deep understanding of their individual needs and learning styles
  • Display a commitment to continuous professional development, embracing new challenges and responsibilities as they arise
