SEN Teacher for KS1 Students with High PMLD Experience - Specialist School

Location: Specialist school in Hemel Hempstead

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

We are seeking an exceptional and passionate SEN Teacher with extensive experience in working with Key Stage 1 students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) to join a specialist school in St Albans This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our students and contribute to their personal and academic development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the unique needs of Key Stage 1 students with additional needs.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that promotes independence, well-being, and positive social interaction.
  • Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and provide personalized support to meet the specific learning goals and targets of each student.
  • Utilise a range of multi-sensory teaching strategies and specialist resources to enhance learning and sensory experiences for students.
  • Collaborate closely with a team of professionals, including teaching assistants, therapists, and parents/carers, to ensure holistic support for each student.
  • Monitor and track progress, provide regular feedback reports to parents/carers, and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Implement strategies to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive behaviour management techniques within the classroom.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest developments, research, and best practices in SEN education, continually enhancing your own professional knowledge and skills.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant teaching qualifications, with specialisation in SEN or PMLD (mandatory).
  • Proven experience and expertise in teaching Key Stage 1 students with PMLD, including a thorough understanding of their needs, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of relevant educational frameworks, such as the National Curriculum and P Levels.
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches and resources to accommodate a wide range of individual needs, ensuring inclusivity and progress for all students.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective partnerships with parents/carers, therapists, and other professionals.
  • Resilience, patience, and a nurturing approach to support students with complex needs, creating a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, staying abreast of current research and approaches in SEN education.
