About the School: Our client is a SEN school catering to students aged 11-18 of all genders, primarily focusing on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) profiles.

Position Details:

  • Location: Bedford
  • Start Date: September
  • Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Non-negotiable)
  • DBS Requirement: Must be on the update service

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher in planning and implementing work programmes for individuals, groups, and the whole class to promote effective teaching and learning.
  • Supervise a whole class and undertake pre-planned activities during the absence of a class teacher.
  • Support teachers in delivering tailored learning activities, ensuring each student's unique needs are met.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment conducive to the development and growth of students with SEN.
  • Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Observe and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Administer and support with assessments, both formal and informal, to gauge student progress and inform teaching strategies.
  • Provide personal care and support as required for students with additional needs.

Additional SEMH Responsibilities:

  • Implement behaviour management strategies to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students in developing social and emotional skills, providing guidance and encouragement as needed.
  • Utilise de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies when necessary to address challenging behaviour.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO and external agencies to develop and implement behaviour support plans tailored to individual student needs.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 SEN TA qualification
  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience working in a UK SEN setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and under supervision.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
