Job Description:

Dunbar Education is delighted to represent a leading secondary school in Hertford in their search for a passionate and dedicated Music Teacher. This role is an excellent opportunity to join a vibrant and supportive school community on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance and school needs.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Deliver engaging and inspiring music lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, following the national curriculum.
  • Lesson Planning: Create and implement detailed lesson plans that cater to a range of musical abilities and learning styles.
  • Assessment: Regularly assess student progress through practical performances, written assignments, and other forms of evaluation, providing constructive feedback.
  • Classroom Management: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, effectively managing classroom behavior in accordance with school policies.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and share best practices, contributing to departmental and whole school initiatives.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and subject knowledge.
  • Pastoral Care: Support the emotional and social development of students, acting as a form tutor and providing guidance as needed.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Lead and participate in the school's extracurricular music programs, including ensembles, choirs, and school performances.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: A degree in Music or a related field, and a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS).
  • Experience: Proven experience teaching music at the secondary level, preferably within the UK education system.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire and motivate students in both classroom and performance settings.
  • IT Skills: Competency in using educational technology and virtual learning environments.
