Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Bursar to join our team at a reputable Secondary School in Milton Keynes. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience within the UK education sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Oversee all financial operations of the school, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Income Management: Manage income streams, including fees, grants, and donations, ensuring timely collection and accurate recording.
- Expenditure Management: Monitor expenditure against budget allocations, identify areas for cost savings, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Payroll Administration: Coordinate payroll processes, including staff salaries, pensions, and benefits, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
- Procurement: Manage procurement processes for goods and services, negotiate contracts, and maintain vendor relationships.
- Financial Planning: Assist senior management in long-term financial planning and strategic decision-making.
- Risk Management: Identify financial risks and implement appropriate controls to mitigate them, ensuring the financial stability of the school.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including VAT, tax, and charity law, and prepare financial reports for external stakeholders.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, identify trends, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage the finance team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a similar role within the UK education sector.
- Strong understanding of financial management principles and practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in financial software and MS Office suite.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications in finance or accounting (desirable).
- Knowledge of SIMS or other school management systems (desirable).
