Overview: Dunbar Education is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Science Technician to join our team at a reputable Secondary School in Milton Keynes. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the Science department by ensuring the smooth operation of practical lessons and providing essential technical assistance to teachers and students.

Responsibilities:

  1. Preparation and Maintenance: Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, materials, and resources for practical science lessons in accordance with the curriculum requirements and teacher specifications. Ensure all equipment and materials are safely stored and maintained.

  2. Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to teachers and students during practical lessons, including troubleshooting equipment issues and offering guidance on experimental procedures and techniques.

  3. Health and Safety: Maintain high standards of health and safety within the science laboratories, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines. Conduct regular safety checks on equipment and laboratory facilities.

  4. Inventory Management: Manage and monitor the inventory of science equipment, chemicals, and resources. Maintain accurate records of stock levels, order supplies as necessary, and assist with budget management.

  5. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with science teachers to support the delivery of practical lessons, demonstrations, and experiments. Assist in the development and adaptation of practical resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

  6. Training and Development: Stay updated on developments in science education and laboratory techniques. Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.

  7. Assessment Support: Assist with the administration and supervision of practical assessments and examinations, ensuring adherence to examination board guidelines and procedures.

  8. Extra-curricular Activities: Support the organization and supervision of extra-curricular science activities, such as science clubs, competitions, and field trips, to enrich the learning experience for students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience working in a similar role within the education sector in the UK.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures relating to laboratory environments.
  • Proficiency in using scientific equipment and laboratory apparatus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work, with a commitment to supporting the educational goals of the school.

Education: A relevant qualification in science or a related field is desirable.
