Key Responsibilities:

As an SEN Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:

  1. Supporting Students: Provide one-on-one or small group support to secondary school students with SEN, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.

  2. Personal Care: Assist with personal care tasks, as needed, ensuring the comfort and well-being of students with complex needs.

  3. Adaptation and Differentiation: Collaborate with teachers to adapt and differentiate learning materials and activities to meet the specific needs of SEN students.

  4. Behavior Management: Assist in managing challenging behavior by implementing strategies and techniques outlined in individual behavior plans.

  5. Progress Monitoring: Track and record student progress and communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and relevant professionals.

  6. Inclusion: Promote inclusivity and foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment for all students.

  7. Health and Safety: Ensure the safety and welfare of SEN students in all settings, including during outings and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with students with SEN is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support is advantageous.
