SEN Science Teacher

Position: SEN Science Teacher

Working Hours: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (Non-negotiable)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Therapeutic Education: Implement a therapeutic approach to support the emotional and educational needs of pupils with SEN.
  • Behaviour Management: Manage behaviour effectively through positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Student Support: Build and maintain positive relationships with pupils, providing guidance and support.
  • Facilitation of Learning: Work with secondary age pupils to facilitate their learning and development.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and adapt the science curriculum to meet the needs of pupils with SEN.
  • Individualised Instruction: Create and deliver individualised education plans (IEPs) tailored to each pupil's unique needs and abilities.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct regular assessments of pupils' progress, providing feedback and adjusting teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and therapists to plan and implement comprehensive educational programmes.
  • Parental Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEN education and science teaching.
  • Resource Management: Utilise and manage classroom resources effectively to create an engaging and supportive learning environment.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all activities and classroom practices comply with school policies and government regulations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, incidents, and other relevant information, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Inclusive Practices: Promote and model inclusive practices in the classroom, ensuring all pupils have access to the curriculum and are encouraged to participate fully.
  • Differentiation: Plan and deliver differentiated lessons that cater to the varied learning needs and abilities of pupils.
  • Classroom Environment: Create a safe, stimulating, and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and development.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Provide mentorship and guidance to teaching assistants and support staff working within the classroom.
  • Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to implement crisis intervention strategies when necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils.
  • Extra-curricular Activities: Organise and participate in extra-curricular activities and educational outings that enhance the learning experience of pupils.
  • Technology Integration: Integrate technology effectively into the classroom to enhance learning and engagement.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Applicants without QTS will not be considered.
  • Background Check: Must have a DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one.
  • Experience: Previous experience with SEMH and managing behaviour challenges is essential.
  • Commitment: Full-time position only.
