SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on a child's life and helping them achieve their full potential? We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner school in Leighton Buzzard, providing essential support to a Year 1 child with Autism.

Position Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for a child with Autism in Year 1. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with the child, their teachers and other support staff to ensure their individual needs are met and they can access the curriculum effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a strong understanding of the child's specific needs and learning style.
  2. Provide one-on-one support during lessons to help the child stay engaged and focused.
  3. Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt and differentiate teaching materials and activities.
  4. Support the child with their social interactions, helping them build positive relationships with peers.
  5. Implement behavior management strategies as needed to promote a positive and conducive learning environment.
  6. Record progress and maintain accurate records of the child's achievements and challenges.
  7. Encourage the child's independence and confidence while nurturing their academic and emotional development.

Requirements:

  1. Previous experience working with children with Autism or special educational needs is desirable.
  2. Possess a patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach towards supporting the child's development.
  3. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with teachers, parents, and other support staff.
  4. Ability to adapt and be flexible in responding to the child's individual needs.
  5. Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance or Special Education are desirable but not essential.

Working Hours: School hours, term-time only.
