SEN Tutor

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Tutor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide personalised support and instruction to students with special educational needs (SEN). This role involves creating tailored lesson plans, employing various teaching methods, and working closely with other educational professionals to ensure each student reaches their full potential.

Must Have:

1. Relevant Degree or Teaching Qualification:
- A degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is highly desirable.

2. Experience Working with SEN:
- Demonstrated experience in supporting students with special educational needs, including those with ASD, ADHD, SPLD, and other learning difficulties.

3. Safeguarding Certificate:
- Completion of safeguarding training to ensure the welfare and protection of students.

4. DBS on the Update Service:
- A current and valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check registered on the update service.

5. Specialised Training or Certifications:
- Additional certifications such as SENCo qualification, Makaton, TEACCH, PECS, or any other relevant SEN training courses.

6. Knowledge of SEN Legislation and Best Practices:
- Familiarity with the latest SEN legislation, policies, and best practices in education.

7. First Aid Certification:
- A current First Aid certificate may be required, especially when working with vulnerable students.

8. Professional Development:
- Continuous professional development courses related to SEN, behaviour management, and inclusive teaching strategies.

These qualifications ensure that a SEN tutor is well-prepared to meet the diverse needs of students with special educational needs and can provide a supportive and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) for students with SEN
- Deliver one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions tailored to the needs of each student
- Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage and support students with diverse learning needs
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and other professionals
- Collaborate with teachers, SEN coordinators, and other staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
- Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Address behavioural issues with patience and positive reinforcement
- Stay informed about the latest developments in SEN education and participate in ongoing professional development
