Job Description

Dunbar Education are currently working with an Independent College who are seeking a Teacher of Physis to join their highly reputable Science Department.

The post is suitable for a teacher of Physics who shares the department's passion for learning and teaching, whether an experienced professional or someone early in their career, who would like the chance to be mentored by a team of exceptional practitioners. Salary: MPS/UPS

Contract: Full time (part time will be considered)

There are approximately 1,300 pupils aged 4 to 18 years old on the shared site

The department benefits from a wealth of equipment, which more resembles a university laboratory rather than a typical school, and all students benefit from the hands-on approach that they are provided with. This is reflected in the excellent results achieved by the Department. In 2023, at GCSE, 77% of grades awarded were 7 - 9, and at A Level, 87% of grades were A* - B.

Main Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the teaching of the Department, setting and marking pupils' classwork and homework as appropriate and in accordance with the Department's Assessment Policy.
  • To assist in the delivery and development of the appropriate syllabuses and schemes of work.
  • To foster an atmosphere in the classroom which encourages the highest standards of work, behaviour, and appearance
  • To make learning exciting and stimulating and fun, employing a range of approaches and strategies, with the focus on pupil learning rather than teacher delivery.
  • To implement Department and College policies.
  • To maintain the upkeep of all classrooms, wall displays and other resources reporting any problems to Head/ICT/Bursary as appropriate.
  • To keep the Head effectively informed of the progress of pupils and teaching groups and to report any problems or concerns as soon as they arise.
  • To communicate with parents, tutors and HsMs on the progress of pupils through report writing, Parents' Evenings and other appropriate means.
  • To set and mark examinations.
  • To be aware of all Health and Safety factors relevant to classroom management.
  • Ensure all pupils achieve their potential with respect to GCSE & A-level outcomes.
  • Ensure all pupils achieve high levels of value-added at both GCSE and A-level.
  • To keep up to date with changes in exam board specifications with respect to the delivery and assessment of GCSE and A-level specifications.
