Care Assistant - SEN School

Job Description

We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Care Assistant to join our team at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. As a Care Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with special needs, ensuring their well-being, safety, and inclusion within the school environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with personal care tasks, including dressing, feeding, toileting, and hygiene routines, while promoting independence and dignity.
  • Support students with their individual learning plans, providing assistance during classroom activities and therapies.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment, encouraging social interaction and positive relationships among students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement personalized care and educational strategies.
  • Monitor and supervise students during recreational activities, outings, and school events, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Administer medication and medical treatments to students as required, following the school's policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior incidents, and any significant observations, reporting them to the appropriate staff members.
  • Assist in the preparation and adaptation of materials and resources for individual students, promoting their engagement and learning.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills.
  • Adhere to safeguarding guidelines and promote a culture of respect, equality, and diversity within the school community.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs, preferably within an educational or care setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities.
  • Compassionate and patient nature, with the ability to provide emotional support and build positive relationships with students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and medication administration.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs and changing demands of the school environment.
  • Relevant certifications or training in areas such as safeguarding, behavior management, or special education would be advantageous.
