Job Overview:
As a Communication Support Worker, you will facilitate effective communication and engagement for students with additional needs within the school. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with students on a one-to-one or small-group basis, helping them to overcome communication barriers and assisting in their academic and social development. By employing your expertise in behaviour management, you will help create a positive and conducive learning environment, promoting a sense of security and stability for our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with additional needs.
- Facilitate effective communication and understanding for students with speech, language, and communication difficulties.
- Assist in the implementation of individualized support plans and educational strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to create a comprehensive support network for each student.
- Implement behaviour management techniques to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Observe and record the progress and developments of students, maintaining accurate records.
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Participate in training and professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children and young people with additional needs and challenging behaviours.
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, empathetic, and understanding approach to supporting students.
- Relevant qualifications or training in communication support or related fields (desirable but not essential).
- Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to undergo one.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
