Early Years Specialist Teaching Assistant WANTED! Full-time contract only.

Location: Harpenden

We are currently seeking a highly experienced and dedicated specialist Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with Learning Difficulties to join a fantastic team in a specialist school, just outside of Harpenden. In this role, you will be responsible for providing tailored support to a student with Special Educational Needs, facilitating their access to the curriculum and promoting their progress. Additionally, there may be instances where you will assist in supporting other students within the class. Due to the nature of this role, there will be some lifting and personal care involved.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalised 1-2-1 support to a student with Special Educational Needs
  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the student's individual requirements are adequately addressed
  • Utilise a variety of teaching strategies and resources to facilitate the student's engagement with the curriculum
  • Regularly assess the student's progress and provide constructive feedback to both the class teacher and SENCO
  • Support the student in addressing their emotional and social needs, fostering a secure and nurturing learning environment
  • Work to improve the fine and gross motor skills of children and young people with SEN
  • Encourage play and exploration through learning and safe activities

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs, preferably in a 1-2-1 capacity
  • Profound knowledge of a diverse range of SEND diagnoses and the associated needs
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling the establishment of positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Strong commitment to inclusive education, with the ability to adapt teaching styles to cater to the diverse needs of students
  • Knowledge of the EYFS framework, and how best to implement it
  • Experience using the EYFS framework with children with additional needs
