English Teacher

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join our team at a youth offender site in Milton Keynes. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals who have had encounters with the criminal justice system. As an English Teacher, you will play a crucial role in providing education and support to help rehabilitate and empower these young offenders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging English lessons to students within the youth offender site, catering to their individual learning needs.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love for learning.
  • Implement appropriate teaching strategies and resources to enhance students' literacy skills, including reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and track their educational development.
  • Collaborate with the site's multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to the students' rehabilitation and education.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their personal growth and self-esteem.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, achievements, and behavior.

Requirements:

  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) with a specialization in English.
  • Experience teaching English to young people, preferably in alternative education settings or with at-risk youth.
  • Strong knowledge of the English curriculum and effective teaching methods for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students who may have experienced challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to establish boundaries and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Understanding of youth justice and the ability to approach teaching within this context.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the students and the youth offender site.
