Functional Skills Teacher (Challenging Behaviour)

Our organization is seeking a dedicated and experienced Functional Skills Teacher to join our team in a challenging behavior setting. As a Functional Skills Teacher, you will work with students who exhibit challenging behaviors and have difficulty engaging in traditional learning environments. Your role will be to provide tailored instruction and support to help these students develop essential functional skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver effective and engaging lessons to students with challenging behavior, focusing on functional skills such as numeracy, literacy, and ICT.
  • Assess students' individual learning needs and develop personalized learning plans.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and motivation.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to support students in managing their challenging behaviors and fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, including support staff and external professionals, to provide holistic support to students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, achievements, and behavior incidents.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as required.

Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with students with challenging behavior, preferably in a similar setting.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of functional skills curriculum and strategies for supporting students with additional needs.
  • Excellent behavior management skills and the ability to create a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills, including record-keeping and report writing.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals.
