Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers, school counsellors, and other professionals to identify students in need of mental health support
  • Assist students in developing coping strategies and techniques to manage their emotional and behavioural challenges
  • Provide 1-2-1 or small group support sessions to students, offering a safe and non-judgmental space to discuss their concerns
  • Implement individualised plans to address students' specific mental health needs and monitor their progress over time
  • Work closely with parents and guardians, fostering effective communication and involvement in their child's mental health journey
  • Promote mental health awareness and well-being initiatives within the school community
  • Support the integration of mental health strategies and interventions within the school community
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of student interactions and progress

Requirements and Qualifications needed:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting
  • Possession of relevant qualifications in mental health support, such as a diploma in counselling, psychology, or a related field
  • Excellent understanding of mental health issues affecting children and adolescents
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish effective relationships with students, parents, and staff members
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide emotional support to students in distress
  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques and interventions for addressing various mental health concerns
  • A commitment to safeguarding the welfare of students and maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school community
  • A positive and nurturing approach towards students, fostering their resilience and self-esteem
