SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Dunbar Education are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the special educational needs department as a Teaching Assistant in the Hertfordshire area. The successful candidate will assist the class teacher in providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for students with special educational needs.

Role and Responsibilities: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to students with Special Educational Needs within our partner school community. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement learning plans for students with SEN.
  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to students during lessons, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning objectives.
  • Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes students' social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Assisting with classroom activities, including preparing materials and resources to support differentiated learning.
  • Collaborating with other professionals, parents, and caregivers to ensure effective communication and holistic support for students with SEN.
  • Monitoring and recording students' progress and achievements and providing feedback to the teaching team.


  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs is highly desirable.
  • Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting students' well-being and progress.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the diverse needs of students in a dynamic educational setting.
  • A positive and proactive attitude, with the ability to use your initiative and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
