SEND Learning Support Assistant

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN (Special Educational Needs) Learning Support Assistant to join our team. As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to students with special educational needs, ensuring they have equal access to education and opportunities for learning and development.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with students with special educational needs, including those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or behavioral challenges.
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students, as well as small group support when required.
  • Adapt and modify teaching materials and strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents/guardians.
  • Help students develop essential life skills, including social skills, communication skills, and independent living skills.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Assist with personal care needs, if required.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with individuals with special educational needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • A passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs and a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in responding to the varying needs of students.
  • A basic understanding of common special educational needs and associated strategies.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation related to special educational needs (e.g., Education, Health, and Care Plans).
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs (desirable).
