SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) - Y10, 11, and Sixth Form

This position carries the responsibility of overseeing special educational needs provision for students in Year 10, Year 11, and the Sixth Form.

Position: As the SENCO for Year 10, Year 11, and the Sixth Form, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and leading the provision of special educational needs support for students in these key stages. You will work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that individualized education plans and appropriate interventions are in place to support the learning and well-being of students with special educational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective strategies for identifying, assessing, and meeting the special educational needs of students in Year 10, Year 11, and the Sixth Form.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to provide guidance and support in planning and adapting the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students with special educational needs.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of students' needs, working closely with parents, teachers, and external professionals to develop and review individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of interventions, accommodations, and support strategies outlined in students' IEPs.
  • Monitor student progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, making adjustments and recommendations as necessary.
  • Provide professional development and training opportunities for staff to enhance their knowledge and understanding of special educational needs.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and organizations to access additional support and resources for students with special educational needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to the provision of special educational needs support.
  • Work closely with parents and carers, fostering positive and effective communication to ensure their involvement in decision-making processes.

Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) and experience working in special educational needs settings.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCO) or equivalent.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of SEN legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and lead the provision of special educational needs support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively manage a varied workload.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Knowledge of the specific needs and challenges faced by students in Year 10, Year 11, and the Sixth Form.
